In April 2009, Smt Imanjeet Bawa, a Delhi resident, filed an RTI seeking information on the following query under the RTI Act 2005:

 

“Is Singhania University in Jhunjunu, Rajasthan, recognised by the UGC?”

“The university's B.ed programme is not NCTE approved; is it mandatory to offer such a programme without NCTE recognition?”

“Is the above-mentioned university's Ph.D. research programme valid both in India and abroad?”

“Singhania University in Rajasthan offers engineering courses (B Tech and M Tech) that are recognised both in India and abroad.”

In response, an official of Singhania University presented the original copy of the letter in response to Sh Imanjeet Singh Bawa's RTI, which stated unequivocally that Singhania University [Established by the Government of Rajasthan and recognised as per Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956] Pacheri Bari, Distt. Jhunjhunu -333515, Rajasthan (India)] is a duly registered and recognised university under the University Grants Commission Act

We also inquired about another allegation that has been circulating on the internet and other social media platforms, claiming that Singhania University lacks AICTE approval to provide the courses. Officials showed us a copy of the Supreme Court of India cases involving the petitioner, BHARATHIDASAN UNIVERSITY & ANR., and the respondent, ALL INDIA COUNCIL FOR TECHNICAL EDUCATION & ORS. Singhania University does not require AICTE certification because it is a self-financing university created by a State Act.
